About Pastor Mac
Rev. Dr.
McKenzie ("Mac") Pier
Mac is a Church Relations Advocate
at World Vision–New York, where he mobilizes churches and individuals
across the greater New York area to respond to the needs of the children
and families impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa. Mac is President
and Founder of Concerts of Prayer Greater New York. Mac would eventually
serve as facilitator of the united prayer movement throughout New York
City, Long Island, Northern New Jersey and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Concerts of Prayer Greater New York began as a grassroots expression of
unity with a "concert of prayer" (ecumenical prayer meeting) in
1988 led by Rev. David Bryant. COPGNY has been described as one of the
most developed urban prayer and pastoral networks in the world.
He earned a doctor of divinity degree from
Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in June 2000, and is coauthor of The
Power of a Praying City (Pier &
Sweeting, InterVarsity Press, Sept 2002), a testament to God's grace
experienced in the region before, during and after the tragic events of
September 11, 2001. He and his wife Marya reside in Flushing, Queens with
their three children, Anna, Jordan and Kirsten
